QUITAPENAS playing Nuevofest – RSVP now for the free show at FringeArts

Nuevofest 2016, a free Latin music festival celebrating the new sounds of Latin American music is being held on Sunday, July 10th at FringeArts as part of WXPN’s Latin Roots Live! concert series. Seven bands will be featured in the free concert including iLe, The Chamanas, Cartas A Felice, Calma Carmona, Sexy Zebras, and others.

QUITAPENAS: one word – all caps, four syllables – all claps, gives you a taste of their rhythmic contagion. This tropical Afro-Latin combo was born under the warm California sun, borrowing aesthetics from the radical 60s, 70s and 80s. Each song echoes a remix of history and invites one to engage in the liberating evenings of Angola, Peru, Colombia, Brazil and beyond. Already establishing themselves as a cult band throughout the West Coast – along with groovy comrades like Buyepongo, Chicano Batman, & Viento Callejero – QUITAPENAS unleashes heat with their folkloric funk-based rhythms every time they hit the stage. The name means “to remove worries.” Everybody has a “pena” and the mission of QUITAPENAS is simple: to make you dance and leave you worriless – And this is what Nuevofest is all about.

Nuevofest will be held at FringeArts, 140 N. Columbus Boulevard (at Race Street) in Philadelphia. Doors are at 5 p.m. The all-ages show starts at 6 p.m.

The event is free however you must RSVP HERE.

Latin Roots Live! is produced in partnership with Afrotaino Productions and made possible by the William Penn Foundation.
